Algebra I, fall 2006LecturerLecturesWeeks 36-42 and 44-50, Monday 10-12 in room C123, Thursday 10-12 in room C124. Two hours of exercise sessions per week. ExercisesExercise class is on Tuesday 12-14 in room C129. The weekly exercises will be handed out in the lecture on Monday and will be discussed in the exercise session a week later. The exercises will also be posted below.
ContentsThe course will be based on the book "A First Course of Abstract Algebra" by J. Fraleigh, 1967. It will cover basic group theory and if the time permits also some ring theory. Lecture NotesThe lecture notes and additional course material can be found in room C326 in the "Algebra 1" folder for the current term. The lecture notes are usually always a bit ahead of the lecture itself, the progress of the lecture can be found on this seperate page. Credits10 op, 5 ov GradeThe grade will based on: 1/3 1st exam, 1/3 2nd exam and 1/3 exercises. ExamsThere will be two exams, one in the middle of the term, the other at the end of the term.
